A Brief History...

It all began when Steven and Gus met in 7th grade back in ‘79.  Who would have thought that would be the start of Tastes Like Chicken?  As the years went by they learned their instruments, played in many groups together and put together a large catalog of songs.

Meanwhile, in the early 90’s Mark was kicking around playing drums for different groups around the area, eventually becoming the drummer for the local band, Straight Up.

In ’94, after a year or two of not playing, Steven was ready to get out and join a band. When he found out through a friend that Mark’s band was looking for a bass player, he decided to meet the band and audition.  After a grueling interview with Mark and guitar player Dick Smith, he was in the band.

Gus meanwhile was putting on a show in his living room almost every night, practicing his craft.

After about a year, some of the members of the 5 piece band Straight Up were getting a little tired of playing and rehearsing.  Mark, Dick and Steve however were still itching to play after practice so the three ventured down to Green’s Saloon to play at the open mic night.  They really only had 2 or 3 songs when they started.  After a few months of open mic nights and working out a set list of around 20 songs, they started playing shows around Stamford.

Things were going fine.  Eventually the band was looking to add another member to fill out the sound.  Steven thought who better than Gus?  So in ‘96-’97, Gus joined the band.   Now the lineup was Mark on drums, Dick on lead guitar and background vocals, Gus on rhythm guitar and background – background vocals, and Steven on bass and vocals.

Again, things were going well until Dick Smith got up and moved all the way to Vermont.  While he was going to be missed very much, the band still had Gus to take over all guitar parts.  That’s been the lineup ever since.  Since then they have recorded a CD with over 99 copies pressed and continue to play around the Fairfield County area.

The band is looking forward to seeing you when they come to your town!!
